Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Outland Gate Faire?

The Outland Gate Faire is a living, breathing Renaissance village brought to life through performance, craft, and adventure. Guests can explore Stillwater Village, meet artisans, watch shows, and even step into quests and stories that unfold throughout the weekend.

When and where is the faire held?

The faire takes place each September at Stillwater Village, located about 45 minutes from Moncton, New Brunswick. More information here: Location

What can I expect when I visit?

You’ll step into a world filled with music, laughter, and adventure. Explore the artisan market, enjoy live performances, and meet colorful characters throughout Stillwater Village. Whether you come for the food, the crafts, or the magic, every path leads to something new to discover.

How accessible is the faire?

The faire grounds are rustic forest terrain with uneven trails and natural hazards. We are unable to accommodate wheelchairs, mobility devices, or strollers this year, and urge caution for individuals with low vision. We know this is a limitation, and are working towards better access in future years.

Young children must be supervised at all times.

While we work to improve conditions each season, please be aware of potential trip and fall hazards throughout the trails and village.

Is the faire family friendly?

Yes. The Outland Gate Faire is designed for guests of all ages. Families can enjoy daytime entertainment, hands-on activities, and kid-friendly performances.

Some evening programs and themed weekends may feature mature content, and those will always be clearly marked so you can plan your visit comfortably.

Do I need to wear a costume to attend?

Costumes are welcome but not required. Many guests choose to dress up to feel part of the world of Stillwater Village, but you’re just as welcome in comfortable modern clothes. Whether you come in full garb or jeans and a T-shirt, you’ll be part of the story all the same.

Are there rules or guidelines for costumes?

Yes. We encourage outfits that fit the atmosphere of a Renaissance-style village. Please avoid clearly modern, futuristic, pop-culture, or anime-inspired costumes unless they’ve been thoughtfully adapted to look period-appropriate.

Think leather, linen, wool, and handmade details rather than synthetics or visible logos. The goal is to keep the magic and immersion alive for everyone.

This is a family-friendly event, so please be sure your costume is appropriate for all ages. If you wouldn’t wear it to a public park, you shouldn’t wear it here.

Guests wearing costumes that break theme or violate these guidelines will be asked to change or remove them before entering. Those who refuse may be denied entry and refunded. These guidelines help ensure the Faire remains an immersive experience for everyone.

If you are concerned about your costume, you can check ahead of time by emailing guest-services@outlandgatefaire.ca with the subject line “Costume Check” and a photo of your costume.

Can I bring a weapon or prop weapon to the Faire?

Yes, with conditions. Outland Gate Faire is a living history and immersive experience, and period-appropriate weapons and prop weapons are welcome as part of that atmosphere. However, all weapons are subject to our safety policies.

Guests who do not comply with our weapons policy will be asked to secure or remove the weapon. Those who refuse may be removed from the event without refund.

In market, stage, and high-traffic areas: All weapons must be peace-tied and sheathed at all times. No live steel may be drawn. Decorative and costume pieces must remain secured.

In designated combat and tournament areas: Combat safety protocols apply. These areas are supervised by trained marshals, who must be obeyed at all times.

Everywhere on site: Brandishing or aggressive display of any weapon is not permitted in any zone. Staff may ask you to re-sheath, re-secure, or remove a weapon from the site at any time, and that decision is final.

Projectile Weapons

All functional projectile weapons, including bows, crossbows, and firearms of any kind, are not permitted on site unless specifically pre-approved for sale, demonstration, or programming context.

Contact us at guest-services@outlandgatefaire.ca with the subject line “Weapon Approval” before your visit.

Prop and toy projectile weapons such as Nerf blasters are permitted in low-density areas only and must not be used in markets, near the stage, or in any high-traffic areas.
