We welcome you to capture memories of your day and encourage you to share the magic of your experiences at the Outland Gate Renaissance Faire.
At the same time, we want to make sure that everyone has an enjoyable and safe experience, and so, the following photography and video policy applies while at our events.
- Personal Photography & Video (Guests)
You are welcome to take personal, non-commercial photos and video for private use, as long as you follow these rules:
- Your photography and video cannot interfere with performances, operations, or other guests’ experiences.
- Do not use flash photography during live performances.
- You must use handheld equipment (see the restricted equipment list below if you’re unsure about your gear).
- You must respect performer and guest boundaries when taking photos or video.
- Short clips of performances are welcome. Recording a full set, show, or story is not permitted without the performer’s consent, because their work is part of their livelihood.
- Stay outside the safety perimeter at all times. Do not cross barriers, reach over them, or place equipment inside them for a shot. Marshal direction overrides everything in this policy.
Our staff reserve the right to limit or stop photography or video that disrupts the event, blocks pathways, or creates safety concerns.
- Artisan, Performer & Guest Courtesy
- Always ask permission before taking close-up photos or videos of performers, artisans, or guests.
- Some acts, artisans, or experiences prohibit photography or video entirely. This will be clearly posted or announced, and signage and staff direction must be followed.
- Photography specifically of children requires parental consent, and should be done respectfully.
- Do not photograph or record a guest who has asked you to stop or has made clear they aren’t interested.
- Photography or video taken up, under, or into anyone’s clothing or costume is strictly prohibited. This results in immediate removal without refund, and may be reported to police.
Renaissance costuming is an art form and people are proud of it. Ask, and you’ll almost always get a yes.
- Restricted Equipment Requiring Prior Approval
The following equipment is not permitted without written approval from event management:
- Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, or light stands.
- Drones or aerial devices of any kind.
- Professional or broadcast-grade audio equipment.
- Large lenses or camera rigs that obstruct walkways or viewing areas.
If you have unauthorized equipment, you may be denied entry or required to remove your equipment from the event site (to be stored in your vehicle or offsite).
If you need a monopod, stabilizer, or mount as an accessibility aid, email us before you visit and we will make arrangements.
Concealed or disguised cameras are not permitted ever.
- Commercial Photography & Video
Commercial use of photos or video is strictly prohibited without prior written consent. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Professional or staged photo and video shoots.
- Content produced for or on behalf of a brand, sponsor, or client.
- Media, documentary, or broadcast production.
- Livestreaming from the event site.
To be clear: you do not need our permission to post your own photos and video to your social accounts, even if your account is monetized. What requires credentials is producing content for someone else, arriving with a crew or talent, or working from a shot list.
All commercial photographers, videographers, and media representatives must be credentialed in advance by event management.

- Vendors & Participants
Vendors, artisans, and performers may photograph or film their own booths or performances for promotional purposes, provided it does not include guests without consent or disrupt festival operations.
Photography or video of other booths or acts requires permission from the subject, as per the policy for personal photography and video.
Vendors, artisans, and performers may not sell, license, or resell images or footage taken at our events, and may not use Outland Gate Faire names or marks without written permission.
Photography or video of behind-the-scenes areas requires permission from event management.
Vendors, artisans, and performers bringing in a hired photographer must clear it with event management in advance.
- Event Photography & Recording
By entering the event site, guests acknowledge that photography, video, and audio recording may occur for marketing, promotional, archival, or media purposes. Attendance constitutes consent to be photographed or recorded without compensation.
If you would prefer not to appear in our marketing materials, email us and we will remove your image on request.
If you tag us or use our event hashtag, you’re giving us permission to reshare that content on our own channels with credit. We will never sell it or use it in paid advertising without asking you first.
- Enforcement
Festival management and security reserve the right to:
- Deny entry to prohibited equipment.
- Require cessation of photography or video.
- Remove individuals violating this policy without refund.
Our staff will not take your device or demand that you delete anything. Failure to comply with other requests may result in removal from our event site.
